Understand brand identity and target users
Good ideas are often sparked among the process of brainstorming and communications, while the basics including identifying brand identity and target users are essential before embarking on the actual design.
The experience as a publicist in agencies has instilled in me a meticulous approach to research, engaging in internal and external discussions to gain a comprehensive understanding of client expectations and our proposed solutions in the broader context.
The logo design was based on the key feature of the brand - a semi-customized beverage, with controller symbolizing the concept.
A+B > C: Finding the best formula that works
I have to admit that I’m not a graphic design expert. At least not to the level to record a step-by-step tutorial or get a stunning work done at ease. However, I know my fortes and shortcomings, and which tools are handy for what types of work.
In this case, I often had design work completed with more than one design tool. For example, I often create initial drawings on Procreate, then layout with Illustrator, and end up using photoshop for special effects.
With experience in different design tools, I’m able to have fun in exploring and creating work in different formulas with highest efficiency.
The business card was designed for a fictional guitar brand. The guitar elements including guitar and picks were used in both logo and background.
Combining the idea of semi-customized beverage and its availability at vending machines, the poster enlarged the key elements to grab users' attention.
Using Dimension for the cigarette's packaging and Illustrator for the layout and silhouette on poster, it conveys the message of women's freedom/responsibility in both their looks and actions.
